** SHARE YOUR SOLES - Donate New and Used Shoes ~ through August. Jeremy Warneke is a member of Boy Scout Troop 3 working on his Eagle Project. The project must show leadership and benefit the community at large, not just the scouts. For his Eagle project, Jeremy is collecting new and gently used shoes to give to children (and adults) who don’t have any. The organization that Jeremy is working with is called Share Your Soles (a non-profit 501C3). It all started when a lady from Illinois by the name of Mona Purdy went to South America to run a marathon and found children dipping their feet into tar because they didn’t have any shoes. It seemed logical to Mona that we could send them our cast-off shoes because many American children outgrow their shoes before the shoes are worn out. The organization accepts shoes of all styles and for all ages – sneakers, leathers, sandals, slippers, boots, etc.
At the end of August Jeremy will collect all of the donated shoes and the scouts of Troop 3 will help him process the shoes. This involves washing and bleaching all of the sneakers and other washables, and polishing the leathers, replacing shoe laces where needed.
(Troop 3 is sponsored by the Western Reserve UMC in Canfield and meets the needs of young men with mental and physical disabilities.) Jeremy graduated from Fitch High School and now attends No Limits Alternative Center in Youngstown.
Those who would like to support the project but do not have any good-condition shoes to donate can buy a paper shoe for $1.00. For more information go to www.ShareYourSoles.org.

Flat Rock Homes
Flat Rock Homes serves children and adults with disabilities, many of whom also have physical, emotional and psychological diagnoses. We provide homes for persons who demand a special kind of care and therapeutic treatment because their form of MR/DD causes them to display severe aggressive behavior. Through the two service corporations (Flat Rock Care Center and Flat Rock Community Services), our school program (Flat Rock Educational Center), and our Day Support Program, the staff of Flat Rock makes it possible for the miracle of growth to occur daily.
Flat Rock is a church-related agency in covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church. On our 500-acre campus setting we serve children and adults with MR/DD in the 35 bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICFMR).
On and off our campus we serve nearly 60 adult persons with MR/DD in community settings where staff support and guidance is offered for daily living. At all times we strive to live out the mission to which we are committed. The mission of Flat Rock Homes, Flat Rock Care Center, and Flat Rock Community Services is to provide quality care to persons with mental retardation/developmental disabilities and to persons with critical needs in ways that demonstrate God's love.
Flat Rock is a place where we see miracles happen every day. Offering the latest in therapeutic treatments, the best practices in care for persons with MR/DD, and wrapping that all in a profound love for the persons who are entrusted to our care, Flat Rock has been a ministry to vulnerable children and adults and their families since 1866. In our new state of the art facility program staff, nursing staff, therapists and administration strive to assist children and adults to grow to their fullest potential in a secure and nurturing environment.
If you have not seen Flat Rock's ministry we invite you to come and visit us and learn more about the amazing people we serve who are overcoming more challenges in a day than most of us encounter in a lifetime. They are truly remarkable people, and we'd like you to have the same joy we have in knowing them and understanding how much they have to offer the world.
